Anna Wotherspoon - Our candidate for Stamford Town Council
We caught up with Anna Wotherspoon our candidate for Stamford St Mary’s to find out more about her.
What is you favourite colour
It was always green as a child, as I get old I am coming back round to that, it’s a very restful colour
What is you favourite food
Ohh hard one this I like eating. I am very partial to bread and butter pudding especially Askers .
Are you a morning or evening person
I would say morning but others would disagree!!!. I think if I can rouse myself I am better in the morning.
What was you favourite subject in school
This is easy, mathematics. With double maths on Friday afternoon I thought school had already finished and the weekend begun. Yes I like maths for fun.
What work do you do paid or unpaid
I have recently retired from a tech job in Computer networks. I worked in that area for 30 years. I am following up volunteering opportunities in tech education and support. Nothing sorted yet; the Lib Dems general election campaign took up a lot of my time recently. I have always been a volunteer. In all most all of the clubs and societies I have been in I have had a club role of some sort. I even did Fixtures Sec for Stamford Rugby club for a few years. I was member of Friend of the Rec and part of the team that upgraded and redesign the play area. I am glad that the Town Council took on and continued this. Others groups also contributed to the Rec's success; the Skatepark committee, the Tennis Club, and the horticultural Soc help in replanting the band stand.
Why are you a Lib Dem
I am a recent party member, I joined in 2017. I have always be interest in politics but from the sidelines on single issues. Recent events, Brexit being one, have made me want to work within a party. The Lib Dems feel like home. James Moore our PPC summed it up for me “Yes strive for personal success but not at the expense of our neighbours” .
How will you approach being a Town Councillor
I have to win the vote first. The Town council takes place formally in a series of meetings. I will aim to work with all to help us collectively make the best decisions for the town.
Hobbies do you have any
Currently I cycle with TCOS (The Cyclist of Stamford) . I am a season ticket holder for Leicester Tigers, Men and Women’s teams.
What is your connection to Stamford
I moved to Stamford with my husband after we got married. It was not our 1st choice. In fact the first time I visited we parked in the old Red Lion Square and I was distinctly unimpressed . It was Stamford Rugby club that got us here, my husband was persuaded to play and with a ready made social life it was the best place to settle. After 24 years the place has grown on me. 6 more years and I can call myself a Stamfordian. I was in London before and my London friends think Stamford is just too far until they actually make the journey. I like that the town has a mix of people. I do wish we had more local employment and better more frequent public transport at time to support commuting for the jobs there are in the area.
What do you like about campaigning
I do love seeing all the front gardens; I like the tidy and untidy ones . I like getting to know the voters and talking politics, just listening is great too.
